Farmer'sGuide helps farmers with advice, weather and disease alerts, and season tracking. This page explains what data we collect, why, who it is shared with, and how to delete it.
Data we collect
- Account: name, phone number, email (optional), country and region, your town or village if you give it (position rounded to about 1 km, for the weather), preferred language. Your password is stored only in hashed (scrambled) form.
- Farms: name, the map location you choose, address, size and crops.
- Soil tests: readings from the AgriConnect soil test kit (pH, moisture, conductivity, temperature, nutrients), where in the field and when they were taken, and who recorded them.
- Seasons: the expenses, sales, quantities and tasks you record.
- Conversations: your questions and the assistant's answers, plant photos you send for diagnosis, and your ratings of answers.
- Voice notes: audio is transcribed to text and then not kept. Dictation in chat uses your browser's own speech recognition.
- Device: your notification subscription if you turn notifications on, and server logs (including IP address) used for security.
- WhatsApp and SMS: if you message us on WhatsApp, your messages, photos and voice notes; if you turn on SMS alerts, your number is used to send them.
How we use it
- To answer your questions and diagnose plant photos.
- To show you the weather where you are (if you allow it): your phone's location, rounded to about 1 km, is used only to fetch the weather and is not saved.
- To improve our diagnoses: if you tell us whether a diagnosis was right, we keep a small copy of the photo with your answer; an agronomist checks it and it is used to test our diagnosis models.
- To send weather, disease, task and (if turned on) SMS alerts.
- To produce your farm record and season totals.
- To improve answers: answers marked unhelpful may be reviewed by an agronomist.
- To produce aggregated, anonymous statistics.
We do not sell your data and we do not show advertising.
Service providers that process data for us
- Render (hosting) and Supabase (database).
- Anthropic (Claude) and Groq: generating answers (your message and relevant context about your farm).
- Kindwise crop.health: diagnosing photos (the photo and your farm's location).
- Open-Meteo, OpenWeatherMap, ISRIC SoilGrids and NASA: weather and soil data (your farm's coordinates).
- Groq Whisper: transcribing voice notes.
- Africa's Talking (SMS), Meta (WhatsApp), Google (notification delivery) and Sentry (error reports).
What other people can see
- Local prices: only medians combining at least 3 farmers - never your individual price.
- Outbreak alerts: only "N farmers nearby reported this disease", with no names.
- Cooperatives: if you join one, its manager sees your name, phone, farms, crops, alerts and soil test results, and can record soil tests for your farms - not your individual expenses or sales.
- Soil database: AgriConnect keeps soil test readings with their location to understand soils across areas and, in future, to estimate soil conditions for farms that have not been tested. Anything shared with partners is grouped by area, without your name or phone number.
- Lenders: only if you share your farm-record link yourself (valid for 90 days).
Deleting your data
You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings → Delete my account. See how to delete your account. Your conversations, photos, farms, seasons and other personal data are deleted. A few technical records may be kept with nothing that identifies you.
Children
Farmer'sGuide is not directed at children under 13.
